The park's tallest tree, standing about 285 feet tall and 16 feet wide, can be found along the grove trail.
Roaring Camp Railroads in Felton transports visitors back in time with nostalgic steam train rides through towering redwoods. Throughout the year, Roaring Camp also hosts immersive events like the Santa Cruz Mountain Sol Festival, New Years Holiday Lights Train. Brookdale Lodge, a historic resort complex and the main business in Brookdale, gained fame for decades as a retreat featuring a creek running through its popular Brook Room restaurant (closed for renovation as of 2019). Originally started by Judge Logan, the resort was purchased in 1922 by Dr. F.K. Camp, a Seventh-day Adventist physician who hired architect Horace Cotton to design the iconic dining room spanning the creek. Today, Brookdale Lodge has a reputation for ghosts and hauntings.
Schools
Located in the redwood forests of the Santa Cruz Mountains, the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District overlooks the blue expanse of the Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary. The district spans 17 miles from Santa Cruz to Los Gatos, bounded by Bonny Doon to the west and Scotts Valley to the east. The San Lorenzo River winds through the forested valley served by the district. The district's schools are focal points for the small communities of Felton, Ben Lomond, Brookdale, and Boulder Creek that line the river. These towns feature small business districts surrounded by residential neighborhoods.
Students attend their local elementary school through fifth grade at either San Lorenzo Valley Elementary or Boulder Creek Elementary. Secondary years are spent at SLV Middle School and SLV High School. In addition, students have the choice of attending our SLVUSD Charter School.
